Fascinating that you decided to dissect this movie from a trans perspective. A little over 2 weeks ago I used Ron Batty's famous line toward the end of his life which was ad-libbed by Rutger Hauer in the movie to describe the experience of a trans woman I've become close to in New Jersey. For over 40 years she has devoted her life to the needs of others, wanting only to finally complete a physical transition into the woman she has always known herself to be. She wants just a little more life. Her humanity and sacrifice shines through in the same way that Roy's did. There are so many parallels. Thank you for sharing. Your article resonated with me.

Eclectic trans woman, terminally curious. Too many degrees. Trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Attract stray puppies and social outcasts
