I agree the China views Russia as a junior partner in this new alliance. It is likely they will take over the eastern part of the Russian Federation. They have long had their eye on that part of Siberia. Your statement about the size of the Russian military, however, is overblown. Russia’s best troops have already been expended in their war in Ukraine. Their “massive reserves“ of people are merely cannon fodder with little military capability and almost no training. The Russian political system is a mess which does not allow cooperation because of the need for the leaders to control everyone.

As to hypersonic missiles, China has their own technology. The US and the west are also developing their own versions. Russia has never been a technological leader. Most of their technology has been stolen from other countries. They are not as powerful or as sophisticated as you seem to think they are. I do agree, however, that China is looking for more mineral and oil resources, and those are readily available in the eastern part of the Russian Federation, which it now will be unable to control because of so many resources dedicated to the war in the Ukraine.

Russia brings very little to Chinese economic and military clout or political aspirations in the rest of the world. They are merely becoming China’s gas station and raw material supplier.
