I also agree that someone’s claim to be transgender should not be dismissed out of hand because they are also autistic. The point of my original comment was that certain practitioners in Europe have identified an association between autism and the mistaken belief of some of those who suffer from the condition that they are transgender, only to later discover that they are not and suffer transition regret. I’m just saying that this is a warning signal that should be investigated more thoroughly among this population, not suggesting that those who are AFAB, autistic and claim to be transgender, are not. It is merely an indicator that mental health professionals need to be careful to weed out those who may not actually understand what they are. No one wants to make a mistake. Everyone wants to get it right, especially when irreversible surgeries can be involved.
