I am a trans woman who had a peritoneal pull through vaginoplasty in October 2021 in San Francisco. During my preop about a week before the procedure, I was joking around with my surgeon. She has a wonderful personality and we thoroughly enjoyed each other’s humor. I made the off hand comment that since she was going to all the trouble to give me a new vagina, did she have a spare uterus lying around I could have? I was just kidding, but all of a sudden her demeanor changed, and she became serious. She said, “Not yet. But we are close.” She has her own practice, but also a close affiliation with UCSF, which is a leading institution in Transgender research and care.

Earlier this year, I saw a 60 minute segment talking about the uterine transplant program at the University of Pennsylvania. It mentioned that they are performing uterine transplants on infertile women who were unable to bear children for a variety of medical reasons. Apparently 55 of them have been successful so far.

It is not a stretch to envision the day when this procedure will be available to trans women as well. What will the TERFs and Gender Critical crowd say when a trans woman gives birth the old fashioned way by natural insemination and 9 months of pregnancy? That will quickly put the lie to the falsehoods they constantly repeat. If, in their minds, a woman is defined by the ability to bear children, this argument quickly dissolves into nonsense. The day cannot come soon enough.

Eclectic trans woman, terminally curious. Too many degrees. Trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Attract stray puppies and social outcasts
