I am not really certain of the purpose of this article. I am a post op transgender woman who is still working on my name change. I live in the deep red state of Florida. I have never had a problem accessing the same kinds of basic medical care as cis gendered people. I was one of the first to get not only the two-part Pfizer vaccine, I have also been boosted twice at two different pharmacies. There has never been an issue. Covid vaccines are free regardless of a person’s insurance status. To say that transgender aware or friendly physicians can sometimes be an issue in general health care is a different problem. But even there, they are around if one searches hard enough. There are even clinics dedicated to LGBTQ+ healthcare which provide the needed care even to the uninsured. I always appreciate people who raise awareness of the challenges of the LGBTQ+ and in particular the trans community in the public consciousness, but the rationale for this particular article escapes me.
I am also bothered by the unnecessary creation of possible alarm about trans people being able to be safely vaccinated. Undergoing HRT is completely unrelated to the safety and efficacy of vaccines. The biological systems involved are completely different. Vaccines are just as safe (as much as any medical modality can be safe) for the trans community as they are for the cis community. We are not a special class with special needs when it comes to vaccines.
