I don’t disagree with most of what you say, but I think there is another phenomenon at work here as well. Most voters do not make the connection between a policy and its ultimate result which may not come to pass until several years down the road. The average MAGA Republican sees the high cost of food, the high cost of gas, the hysteria about illegal immigration and other things and immediately blames Biden, because he is the president. What they don’t understand is that the scarcity caused by the pandemic due to supply chain interruptions, disastrous Trump trade policies resulting in high tariffs on Chinese goods (and higher pass through costs), failure to address the pandemic on a timely and effective basis, convincing the Saudis to reduce oil production to “help” US producers by raising the price of oil, actions which undermined historical military and economic alliances, and other things all put into effect by Trump laid the groundwork for destabilization of the economy and directly led to the current economic pain.

They fail to understand that it was a combination of Trump‘s actions and quite frankly some bad luck which directly has led to the problems we are facing today. Biden has had to deal with the mess that Trump left behind. It takes time to correct all the problems he created. The Democrats need to do a better job of connecting the dots. They are beginning to do so, but their challenge is that to properly educate the public requires a message which is for the most part too complicated for a voting population that only listens to simple soundbites.

An obvious solution is to fight fire with fire. As an example, the obvious hypocrisy of house Republicans complaining about immigration while refusing to even vote on a bill providing substantial reforms and additional funds to control the border for fear of handing a “victory“ to Biden, shows that they are all about politics and power and not truly trying to govern in the best interest of the American people. Similarly, the continued insistence on a stolen election and continuing to call the prosecution of Trump for a variety of obvious crimes a weaponization of the legal system is something which is easily refuted by any thoughtful analysis.

The equities are on the side of the Democrats and their policies. Now they just have to do a better job of messaging. MAGA cult members will not be persuaded, but there are far more thoughtful undecided people out there than all of this vocal minority as a group. It is time to get the message out in a way that helps the broader public really understand what’s going on.
