I get so tired of all the articles accusing the West of using Ukraine as its proxy in the war against Russia. The facts are very simple. Russia invaded Ukraine without justification. Ukraine needed assistance to defend itself. We are helping them to defend themselves without getting directly involved or providing any weapons that Russia might see as creating a possible threat to its own territory. Yes, this delays the process of peace, and it causes untold suffering to the Ukrainian citizens. But we are not engaging in a proxy war. We are merely helping a country to defend itself. Does the US benefit by weakening Russia militarily? Of course it does. But that is merely a byproduct of Russia’s continued depletion of its military stock. It is not the purpose of the conflict. It has long been the official US position that the conflict will end when Ukraine is willing to negotiate with Russia. It is Ukraine’s decision. The image you paint distorts reality.
