I have always found the disconnect between attitudes marked solely by lip service and actual behavior confounding. Look at the tension between Ephesians 2:8–9 and James 2:18. Many “Christians” are still confused by how the two can be compatible with one another. Which is it? Salvation through grace by faith alone or by works? Both can’t be right can they?
What too many Christians fail to understand is that how one acts is the true measure of their underlying faith. If one has a strong and abiding faith in God and understanding of His nature, their perception changes. The way they see the world and treat the people in it changes as well. Works may not lead to salvation, but works are the measure of true faith in action. This is the biggest problem with modern evangelical “Christianity”. Their faith is shallow, if not non existent. Indeed, I would go further and suggest that they are not Christian at all. It is merely a label for them, utterly unrelated to the nature of God and the example of Jesus.
