I wish the rest of the world were so enlightened, and no you do not have to hand in your progressive credentials for understanding the reality of gender. (After all isn’t being progressive simply being sensitive to the legitimate needs of every person, not just certain privileged groups?) I think we can both agree that all women (including transgender and nonbinary) have a right to live in environments where they are safe (as opposed to merely wanting to feel so for arbitrary reasons). Isn’t this why the debate started in the first place? Because of too many instances of sexual violence toward women? This is something that trans and nonbinary women understand all too well. We suffer the highest rate of such violence among all groups. We would be the last to criticize the legitimate desire for protection from predation where appropriate.
