If you are suggesting mental health therapy, that has been tried and found to be wanting. It is called “conversion therapy” and has been outlawed in most places for both gay and trans people. It is uniformly rejected and considered abuse by all the major medical societies. The only treatment modalities that are proven to work for trans people are medical and/or surgical intervention .

As to your comment that the mechanisms for being transgender are unknown, that is true in terms of a full understanding of all the biological and chemical underpinnings of the phenomenon. However, we know enough to establish that there is a biological basis. PET scan imaging and psychological tests that are age appropriate are all consistent in indicating that transgender people have minds that work in a way that is akin to those of the gender with which they identify, not their biological sex. The weight of evidence is swinging hard towards the acceptance as scientific fact that transgender people are biologically different, not merely socialized differently.
