No. The criticism you see is of those who think that the Bible, in particular the Old Testament, was dictated by God to man and represents the standards Society should follow. They totally ignore the message of love, compassion, forgiveness, and acceptance of all embodied in the life of Christ in the gospels. They are also selective in the portions that they use in their self righteousness. They ignore the parts that no one would tolerate today (like stoning to death a couple caught in adultery), and just focus on those things which meet their pre-conceived agenda and biases.

I have always been and am still a Christian. I have spent my whole life involved primarily in Matthew 25 ministries (the homeless, disadvantaged and imprisoned). What you call the hate of Christians is not a hate of all Christians (and certainly not its higher ideals), just the intolerant, self-righteous, judgmental (and dare I say actually Unchristian ones) who want to control everyone and in fact destroy democracy. They apply a selective set of ancient social standards which does not reflect reality, as if it is some kind of divine dictate rather than written by very flawed humans in a very different society in a different time and place, which was far more ignorant of the nature of people and how the world works. The authors were doing the best they could with limited knowledge.

Too many modern day evangelicals use the Bible as a club to control and demonize, failing to recognize the many inaccurate and arbitrary standards contained within it.. They are not just critical of people who are different from them, they constantly pass laws to control and criminalize them because of their erroneous belief that every word in the Bible was dictated by God and therefore unassailable. They are the ones who cut off intelligent debate. They are the ones not open to discussion. That is the very definition of fascism. Their standards are the antithesis of true Christianity. That is what people are critical of. That is the real problem.
