That is the point of my reply. I do not think that Prigozhin is truly giving up his army, and I also think he has allies among the FSB and the Ministry of Defense, not to mention strong support within the army’s ranks.

While I did not mention it in my original reply, though I have elsewhere, it may also be that we are seeing a well choreographed performance by Putin and Prigozhin for other reasons. The apparent hostility between the two may be for show to provide Putin a way to escape from his misadventure in Ukraine by blaming it on bad advice from his generals. Rather than being antagonistic towards Putin, the two of them may be conspiring together to provide a way for Putin to gracefully bow out of the Ukrainian mess. They have long been friends. You probably have noted that both Putin and Prigozhin have avoided criticizing each other directly by name. Very unusual for people who allegedly are antagonistic to one another. The whole revolt, the condemnation by Putin, the sudden decision to abandon the adventure for no apparent reason and the almost immediate message of forgiveness seems too orchestrated and too pat. There is a lot more going on than what appears on the surface.
