What I mean is that the things that you and others reject as being incorrect or unnecessary or out of date have been adopted by professionals for a reason after decades of experience, scientific research, and study of a very diverse trans population. These are not arbitrary standards to make life more difficult. They are intended to provide a mechanism for assuring the most effective care possible. Part of that is weeding out those who are not trans from those who really are. As you gain more experience with the community, the difference will become more obvious to you. The most difficult groups are the gender fluid and non-binary people who reject the concept of gender to some degree. They can be hard to understand, especially if their presentation and identification is not static. You need to appreciate that people who care are looking for better solutions all the time. Part of the process is in helping people to understand their real issues and making sure that treatment for being transgender is actually the best way to proceed. It is not always the case. As you gain more experience, you will likely come to see this better. Give those of us who’ve been at this a lot longer than you and know a lot more members of the community better than you some credit for their knowledge and experience.

Eclectic trans woman, terminally curious. Too many degrees. Trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Attract stray puppies and social outcasts
